PictureNL congratulates our Vice-Chair, Noreen Golfman for her investiture of the Order of Newfoundland and Labrador on October 4, 2023.

Noreen is recognized for her long-term contribution to the cultural life of the province, especially the local film industry.

PictureNL has witnessed first hand the cultural effects Noreen has had on the industry and the province. She has put Newfoundland and Labrador on the map as a venue for showcasing culturally innovative works by founding the St. John’s International Women’s Film Festival. As a professor at Memorial University, she has educated countless students on the positive cultural effects the film industry has on our province. As the director of the MUN Cinema Series she has sought out thought provoking, relevant and critically acclaimed films that enrich the minds of viewers.

Noreen embodies the idea that film is an extremely successful cultural industry, rich in Newfoundland and Labrador heritage and is one of the industry, and the province’s strongest advocates.

The Order of Newfoundland and Labrador is the highest honour of the province. The object of the Order is to recognize individuals who have demonstrated excellence and achievement in any field of endeavour benefiting in an outstanding manner Newfoundland and Labrador and its residents.
